Gopala Gopala Movie Review

Story: Gopal Rao, a middle-class man who runs a store selling God's idols, is an atheist whose life turns topsy-turvy when an earthquake destroys his store. Soon, he shocks everyone by filing a lawsuit against God to get the compensation from an insurance firm.

Movie Review: A film like Gopala Gopala, which puts logic ahead of one's faith in God, could have been a double edged sword but it has been dealt with an undeniable efficacy to prove the existence of God.

Gopal Rao (Venkatesh), a middle-class man who runs a store selling God's idols, is an atheist and he keeps trying to convince his wife Meenakshi (Shriya Saran) to not blindly follow every ritual in the book to impress the Gods. One day, his life turns topsy-turvy when an earthquake destroys his store and soon, he comes to know that he won't get any money from the insurance firm because it was an act of God that destroyed his store. Then, he shocks everyone by filing a lawsuit against God and the rest of the story is about how he defies all odds, with some help from God himself, and wins the case.

Gopala Gopala begins as a story about an atheist, who seems to offend a lot of people around him, and in the end, the film drives home the point that when you help others, it is as good as worshipping God himself. And in doing so, the film churns out plenty of thought provoking questions which force you to look for answers within yourself and this is perhaps the film's biggest achievement. The entire film turns out to be quite a gratifying experience if you play close attention to the dialogues and conversations between the lead characters, played by Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan.

Take for instance a scene where Pawan Kalyan, who plays Lord Krishna in the film, talks about the importance of Dharma in the larger scheme of things and how no one can escape it. And he quite effortlessly prods Gopal Rao (Venkatesh) to look closer into the very same principles, which form the undercurrent of religion, sacred texts and faith, to find the answers that will lead him to victory. Soon, Gopal Rao realises, in a more matured way, the true meaning of God. There's a dialogue in the film - "Manishemo Raayini kooda devudini chesthunnadu, kaneesam aa devudu manushlni manishi ga chesthe chaalu (Man sees God even in rocks. And it's more than enough, if the God can turn every man into a more humane person)." This is the underlying theme of the film and the message is reiterated scores of times throughout the film.

Then, there are plenty of scenes which feature Venkatesh taking potshots at how few godmen have commercialised religion and continue to mislead people. While some of the characters of godmen, played by Mithun Chakraborty and Posani Krishna Murali, are reduced to caricatures, both the actors excel in their respective roles. Shriya Saran has a limited, but crucial, role which helps in establishing the story.

All said and done, the film truly belongs to its two lead actors - Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh. Their camaraderie is palpable and they hold the film together, especially in the second half. Right from the moment Pawan Kalyan zooms into action, the proceedings in the film become livelier and the unusual serenity and gravitas which Pawan Kalyan brings to the table is too hard to miss. Thanks to some top notch writing, Venkatesh nails the emotional sequences and the courtroom scenes are very well staged. Bhaje Bhaje song, featuring both Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh, is a treat to watch on screen.

The film is a remake of Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar starrer Oh My God and the Telugu version largely stays true to the original version. Kishore Kumar Pardasani, the director, does well in handling the emotional depth of the film without going overboard or offending anyone's faith. Yes, the film does feel a tad too long, but it has enough moments which stay with you long after you finish watching it. And more importantly, it makes you think about life and reminding what our place in the cosmos is

Pawan Kalyan and Venkatesh's most awaited 'Gopala Gopala' first look is finally here. As Lord Krishna, played by Pawan Kalyan, swings in a cradle in trademark Sri Maha Vishnu pose, it is his devotee Venkatesh who caught the attention. Motion poster of the movie is amazing as Venky walks behind Pawan, imitating his meditation style, and then finally feeling excited by his presence.

Pawan's simple look in 'laalchi' style dressing brought the much  needed respect for the look, while Venky is at his comic best. At the same time, Anup Rubens enthralled us with his wonderful flute feat as the  music has set perfect backdrop for the flick. Directed by Dolly (Kishore), Gopala Gopala is an official remake of Bollywood movie Oh My God. - See more at: http://www.gulte.com/movienews/33288/Gopala-Gopala-First-look-Is-Here#sthash.qmIsYQMJ.dpuf

Attarinti Daredi Stealed Film Fare and Santosham Awards

Attarintiki Daredi

Critic's Rating:  4.5

Cast: Pawan Kalyan, Samantha, Praneetha, Naidya, Rao Ramesh, Bomman Irani, Mukesh Rishi, M S Narayana, Brahmanandam, Ali, Raghu Babu, Dhanraj, Kota Srinivas, Brahmaji, Posani Krishnamurali

Genre: Drama

Duration: 2 hours 50 minutes

Story: The man is on a mission. Nothing can stop him. Not even his ego. From Milan (Italy), he flies down in his private aircraft and lands in Hyderabad. It is a mission with a sentiment attached. It is not about fighting villains but stooping to conquer a heart that is bigger than the Everest.

Movie Review: Let me answer your question straight. The story can wait. The movie is a worth watch. The reasons: Pawan Kalyan's comedy, fights composed by Peter Hein, Trivikram Srinivas' writing skills, Prasad Murella's cinematography, and Devi Sri Prasad's music. That there is promise in the movie is a feel one gets right from the opening scenes which are dramatic. Villains who drop themselves from a helicopter on an island are thrashed by Gautham (Pawan Kalyan). They beat a hasty retreat. Gautham makes his way to the island to confront an anonymous man who was buying up shares in his grandfather Raghunandan's (Bomman Irani) company. Raghunandan, who moves about on his wheel-chair has a desire. He wants that his daughter and her family to come back to him. Sunanda (Nadiya) had married Shekar (Rao Ramesh) against his wishes and parts with her father. However, Raghunandan's heart still beats for her, though he had fired at Shekar with his pistol when the newly wed couple came home. Gautham assures his grandfather that he would get back Sunanda, who happens to be his aunt, back home with her family. In Hyderabad, Gautham assumes the name of Siddu and joins Sunanda's family as a car driver. Let the story take its own turn but for the movie goer, there's so much packed into it all to enjoy. There are hilarious scenes, including Pawan Kalyan's lungi dance, and saree dance, that make you laugh. Pawan Kalyan showcases his versatile self throwing all norms to the winds and deciding to just be an entertainer. Brahmanandam as Bhaskar who wants to bag an Oscar makes an appearance towards the latter part of the movie and a laugh riot breaks out. The confrontation between Bhaskar and Siddu lasts for quite some time and it is just hilarious. Balu (M S Narayana), who plays assistant to Siddu, is cryptic with his loaded comments. He puts up a straight face to get the comedy angle right to otherwise serious business scenes. Sunanda has two daughters Sashi (Samantha) and Prameela (Praneetha) and it looks like both of them take a fancy for Siddu. He's got no leanings. Revealing anything more would be spoiling your fun at the theatre, so let that be there. Samantha gets a meaty role and she grabs eyeballs. Praneetha's eyes haunt our hero. It's the fights that impress most. Of course, cinematic liberties are taken and since you know it is cinema and the unbelievable is accepted, you get to be treated to some fine fighting, if you can call it that. Prasad Murella's cinematography makes the screen come alive. And by the way, music director Devi Sri Prasad puts in an appearance in a song picturised stylishly. If that's not enough, you see some of the Gabbar Singh villains showing up in some fighting sequences.
